Case Study

Project Bowbridge

Project: Bowbridge
Location: Bowbridge Wharf, Stroud
Contract Duration: 5 Weeks
Anchors Installed: 254 No. 8m soil nails
Area Treated: 660m2

Stabilisation of a slope to the rear of a new housing development beneath an existing highway.

The project was designed to stabilise a new slope to the rear of a housing development adjacent to the Canal at Stroud. The works had to take into account the existing instability of the slope and the existing gas main at the top of the slope. The works had to be undertaken over four visits to allow the ground worker to excavate the slope and reinstate the working platform between visits. The last visit was delayed to enable cutting of the temporary sheet piles and cropping of the contiguous piles installed at the base of the slope.

The slope was stabilised with 6 rows of nails each 8m long, counterfort drains, double twist mesh topsoil filled geocell and pre-seeded coir matting. Additional mesh reinforcement was required locally to provide temporary support due to localised surface instability.
